Lather Rinse Repeat returns
Bite-sized beauty blogging for our concerningly short attention spans
Welcome to the first edition of the Lather Rinse Repeat newsletter. Sent out fortnightly, it’s a very loose collection of beauty news and internet weirdness that I’m compelled to share with friends.
The best beauty bits
Bond No.9’s new Dubai-themed fragrance is very Dubai, much oud, so sparkle.
Now Pharrell has a beauty line too?? That said - old mate does have amazing skin (he’s 47?!?!?!), although I suspect it’s more to do with genetics than a rice powder cleanser. Still waiting for that Paul Rudd skincare release.
Three new rose-inspired shades have been added to Hermès’ ultra-luxe lipstick collection. I’m still too scared to start using the ones I received for the first drop because they are just too beautiful, which is why I’m also the proud owner of a box of unopened, 22-year-old Bonne Bell LipSmackers.
The ingredients that make up a lipstick are both fascinating, but also, kind of expected. Sending Michelle’s breakdown to every ‘toxic beauty’ fearmonger who tells me imma die from licking my lips.
A US-based beauty Instagrammer the.skincare.diary has accused skincare brand Drunk Elephant of removing her from PR gifting lists allegedly because she supports Black Lives Matters. Followers point out that it’s more likely because she owns a competing skincare brand as Drunk Elephant has publicly donated to the cause, and drama ensures. This Reddit post has the full receipts.
It’s dropped like 10 degrees in Dubai this week (to a …chilly 30C at night), and literally the only lotion that actually stops my knees and elbows from getting dry and flaky is this one from Palmer’s. Smells bad, works good.
Diptyque is introducing these gorgeous glass hand wash and lotion pumps for its L’Art du Soin collection expansion. I’m looking forward to buying exactly one, then refilling it with Dove for the next century.
I’ve been holding off from any online purchases over the last month, in hopes that my wishlist will be reduced in the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. For beauty, Makeup Muddle’s continually updated list is a good one to refresh for discount codes at both major and indie retailers.
TL;DR
The UAE has massively overhauled some of its most infamous laws - amongst the new measures, couples can shack up together, Arab translators will be provided in court, and you no longer need an alcohol license. Obviously, I only just paid for my own license after eight years of drinking only apple juice…
Some people love Halloween candy, I’m just here for the post-Halloween dog costume sales.
Magnum has a new dark chocolate and pistachio flavour. I recommend buying at Carrefour, then shame-eating it in your car while listening to Dateline instead of going to the gym.
The Dubai Vine Festival is a first for the region, running from 15th-28th of November. It’s organised by the team behind The Tasting Class, so you know it’s good. I went to a preview of the Madinat Jumeirah class and can recommend, but there’s a ton of other events across 40 venues happening in the next two weeks.
My book club is reading Rodham by Curtis Sittenfeld this month, and my god, I’m so bored. How do you make Bill Clinton sex scenes tedious? Like, you just know the guy is a freak. Besides, for a book about Hillary Clinton’s alternate reality in which she doesn’t marry Bill, it sure spends a ton of time talking about him, about what other people think of him and etc etc. Hills deserves more.
I spent like four hours reading through this book’s website and it is just a delight. To have the self-confidence of a supremely average male author!
My friend Courtney inspired me to kick my arse into gear with her foodie-style newsletter. Subscribe right now for honest F&B news from someone with good taste credentials.
My hometown spent AED463,863 on a pigeon statue. It took approximately three days for someone to deface it with a dildo.
Shut UP, Ben Lee.
I bought some cute, profesh dresses from this UK brand and they’ve been stuck at customs for like a month now. There’s no actual story here, I just wanted to complain.
